SIGNS AND WONDERS -
"Signs, signs everywhere are a signs..." One would think that signs and wonders are the validating thing about a phenomena. If a miracle happens then it MUST be something from God. We get this pablum passed our way via TV with the popularity of angels and the current cultural folklore that angels are only here to help us. But such is not the case in scripture about either the "signs" that we may see or the "starry messengers". Notice Christ's own words :
Mt 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.Mr 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
We can see a couple of things here, first off they will be showing "great" signs and wonders. These are some very deceptive wonders also, good enough to fool even the "very elect". The next thing to notice is that false Christs and false prophets SHALL rise. The coming of false prophets will accompany the soon appearance of Christ for the world according to Matthew 24. I have found a curious thing about miracles, supernatural events and so on in scripture, they tend to increase in frequency with a soon coming action by God. Miracles and supernatural events accompany the birth an advent of Christ, they also follow the Exodus from Egypt. Would it be any wonder that the "Enemy of Our Souls" wouldn't do the same thing with a soon coming act of God?
Notice the "chain of events" the apostle Paul outlines in 2 Thessalonians. The Thessalonians were apparently getting confused because some teachers were coming along and telling them that the "Day of the Lord" had already happened:
2Thess 2:3 ¶ Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
First there must be a "falling away" and the Antichrist, or the man of sin, must be revealed. This falling away may be either a worldwide apostasy OR the catching away of the saints (what is known in fundamentalist circles as "The Rapture" or great disappearance, 1Thess 4:16-17). Then he would show himself to be "God" by sitting as God in the Temple. Well there is NO Temple as yet in Jerusalem so this scenario has not come to pass and we are NOT "in the Tribulation". But then there is the reference to the working of Satan with "all power and signs and lying wonders". These signs and wonders are meant to deceive and cause men to believe a lie.
We haven't seen this level of deception in the UFO phenomena at this point in the timeline though. But I believe we HAVE seen the beginnings. There is a governor in the algorithm that prohibits Satan from having full sway over the earth, in verse 6 "him that withholdeth" is still holding back the power of Satan from being shown with all its force. I believe this may refer to the Holy Spirit. When the Christians are "taken out of this world" via the Rapture, then the Holy Spirit will also be removed. Till then Satan will claim his small numbers of cultists, true believers and Heaven's Gate followers. He is still very much active but on a short leash. The typical idea that Christ and the Devil are somehow "equal foes" was part of the problem with the movie "The Exorcist", we pit God and Satan against each other as enemies in some kind of cosmic war. This is only PARTLY true. In Job 2 we see that Satan must ask permission of God to test Job. In many of these cults we find a very defensive lot who believe, sincerely believe, that what they are doing is the "work of God" or that Christ himself directed their work:
2Cor 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Again the warning, TRUST NO ONE...
So you could ask "Just HOW do I know the truth then in this complicated tangle of conspiracy, false miracles and supernatural broo-ha-ha?" God is not remiss in giving us a way out!
Deut 13:1 ¶ If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
If the prophet or signs and wonders CONTRADICT scripture, then you can bet your bottom dollar you are dealing with an "angel of light" whose mission is to deceive you. I can only think of the individual I contacted who sincerely thought he was being visited by the prophet Ezekiel, problem was that the prophet was giving him "another gospel", ie. you are truly "divine" and only need to have it revealed within you. I reminded this deluded soul that Satan made the exact same promise in Genesis 3 (and we know where that all lead).
