Of Saucers and visions -

There is a remarkable document found at this link:
Ezekiel's Vision

Lev 26:33 And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.
34 Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies’ land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.

Christ began his ministry at the end of a Jubilee year, and God graciously waited till the next Jubilee was finished for the sake of the righteous to destroy the nation of Israel (Israel was not completely taken by the Romans till all the harvests were finished in 77 A.D.)

The vision of Ezekiel (no matter how many times one hears that it is about UFO's) is primarily Ezekiel getting a visual story told to him of the Shekinah Glory leaving the temple and even leaving the city of Jerusalem. In them the prophet sees God lifting up and leaving the nation of Israel because of their sins:

Eze 10:18 Then the glory of the LORD departed from off the threshold of the house, and stood over the cherubims.
Eze 10:19 And the cherubims lifted up their wings, and mounted up from the earth in my sight: when they went out, the wheels also were beside them, and every one stood at the door of the east gate of the LORD’S house; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.
Eze 11:22 Then did the cherubims lift up their wings, and the wheels beside them; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.
Eze 11:23 And the glory of the LORD went up from the midst of the city, and stood upon the mountain which is on the east side of the city.

Now this same glory will return. When it does its coming will be noted world wide:

Mt 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

One might make the argument that what he saw was a spacecraft so it will help to look at exactly what it was he saw and try to understand the meaning of it. There is a convincing argument to be made that what he saw was really the Heavenly Ark (shades of Indiana Jones!). When Moses devised the pattern for the Ark (eventually residing in the Temple) he was really working according to what he saw in the heavenlies (this is God speaking):

Ex 25:9 According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.

Then there is the design of the Ark itself, it mimics the vision of Ezekiel:

Ex 25:18 And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of the mercy seat.
Ex 25:19 And make one cherub on the one end, and the other cherub on the other end: even of the mercy seat shall ye make the cherubims on the two ends thereof.
Ex 25:20 And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be.
Ex 25:22 And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.

These winged creatures are part of the heirarchy of angels known as Cherubim. In other Middle Eastern literature they become fabulous winged lions and bulls with human heads such as the one shown in this image gallery:

I believe that these winged creatures of Babylonian myth are not a fantasy at all but rather a corruption of the actual beings. Somehow this idea of fabulous creatures in the heavens persists in the genetic makeup of man. But the bible doesn't stop with Ezekiel in this vision of the heavenly Tabernacle, the Apostle John has almost an identical vision in the last book of the Bible, the Revelation:

Rev4:6 And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.
7 And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.
8 ¶ And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
9 And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,

These beasts are the Cherubim. Their primary mission is to proclaim and enforce the idea of the holiness of God. It is the Cherubim that drive Adam and Eve from the Garden. It is their presence in Ezekiel's vision that points to the religious corruption in the house of Israel at that time. Because they have strayed so far away from God, God in his holiness cannot remain in the nation. The Cherubim appear, they uphold the heavenly throne and take it away from out of the midst of Israel.

No, I don't think that the vision of Ezekiel is in any way related to UFO's but it will be constantly thought of that way and perverted to mean that. There is a conspiracy, there is a hiding of the truth, but its nothing human or alien in origin:

1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
